Halton Borough Council issued a ground-breaking announcement in mid-August 2011 that it would be installing the latest generation of artificial grass pitches for when Widnes Vikings re-entered Super League in 2012. This all-new pitch at the Stobart Stadium Halton will be known as the i-pitch (intelligent pitch) and managed in partnership with Widnes Vikings.

When not in use by the Vikings, the i-pitch will also be available for the community to hire for a whole host of activities such as corporate events, birthday parties and stag do’s. It will also transform into a five-a-side & seven-a-side football and touch rugby facility during the evening and play host to a number of local competitions.
After more than 12 weeks of preparation work, the first strip of the ‘i-pitch’ was laid on Wednesday 4 January with a completion date of Friday 13 January on the agenda.
The i-pitch will be open for taster sessions from Monday 16th January 2012 and will be charged at £20.00 per hour for the first few weeks.
The grand opening will be on Saturday 11th February 2012, with more details to follow soon.
If you like to express your interest in booking a pitch or would like more information about the grand opening please conatct a member of the i-pitch team at enquires@i-pitch.co.uk
